PhD position in translational project for study on pain effects

Location

Center for Translational Neuro- and Behavioral Sciences (AG Prof. Dr. Sven Benson, Medical Psychology and Behavioral Immunobiology, Didactics in Medicine) in cooperation with the Clinic for Infectiology, University Hospital Essen

We offer

  • Scientific collaboration in the subproject “Changing sickness symptom expectations: Effects on objective and subjective symptom dynamics in an experimental model of inflammation-induced sickness” in the Collaborative Research Center TRR/SFB289 “Treatment Expectation”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In this project, we are investigating expectation (placebo and nocebo) effects on disease symptoms during systemic inflammatory processes in healthy individuals and patients.

  • The planned collaboration takes place in an experienced interdisciplinary research team of physicians and psychologists and includes the planning and execution of the experiments as well as the evaluation and publication of research results with the aim of a doctorate.

  • Experimental, interdisciplinary research at the interface between biopsychology, psychoneuroimmunology and medicine in cooperation with the Clinic for Infectiology at the University Medical Center Essen.

  • We offer you careful familiarization with the experimental methods and individual support throughout the duration of the project

Necessary requirements

  • Completed university degree in psychology or a related discipline (Master's degree)
  • Strong scientific interest in human experimental research in the field of placebo/nocebo with the aim of a doctorate
  • Previous experience in biopsychological and/or neuroscientific research projects or measurement methods is desirable
  • High flexibility, commitment, enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams
  • Very good written and spoken English and German skills
