Placebo effects outside medicine

Our lives are determined by expectations – both positive and negative. To a large extent, these expectations are based on past experiences that stay in our minds, and on information that we receive or specifically seek out. And this doesn’t just apply to the field of medicine: Expectations affect every area of life. Positive placebo effects and negative nocebo effects can happen, for instance, when we’re learning in school, when we decide to buy a certain product, or when we’re doing sports. You’ll be truly surprised by our eye-opening research. Have you ever experienced a positive or negative expectation effect yourself? Then please write to us. For our Collaborative Research Centre "Treatment Expectation", we are gathering people’s diverse experiences with expectations – either within the medical field or outside of medicine.
