Dr. Aulenkamp works as anaesthetist at Essen University Hospital and is a clinician scientist in project A04, researching the influence of treatment expectations on postoperative pain.

The research grant, donated by the Münster-based company Sintetica GmbH, is in particular in recognition of her work “Elucidating and Assessing Modality-Specific Postoperative Pain”. The aim of her work is to be able to better assess pain after operations on internal (“visceral-innervated”) organs and to find out what distinguishes it from external (“somatic”) pain. In this way, a basis for the characterization of such pain is to be created in order to be able to better treat postoperative pain individually in the future.
